sermonette: Does God Ever Sin?

Austin Del Castillo
Given 22-Feb-25; Sermon #1805s; 15 minutes

Description: (hide)

A popular misconception that Almighty God sins because He does not keep His own commandments can be refuted by examining the sixth commandment, "Thou shalt not kill." Deliberate killing, such as Cain slaughtering Abel, is a heinous sin, but accidental killing without malice or enmity was managed differently, for example, by setting aside cities of refuge. Similarly, self-defense does not equate to premeditated killing. When Almighty God commands the slaughter of a people, His servants (angelic or human) have an obligation to execute His commands. The intent of the command not to kill or murder differentiates killing that is accidental, or commanded by God, with premeditated, malicious, hate-filled intent (something Almighty God does not have, nor does He have carnal, human nature—which too many of us have in abundance). God, who has the capacity to create, sustain, and resurrect life, is the only Being who can take life, as well as order His servants to take life, but He never allows His called-out saints to presumptuously arrogate that authority to themselves.
