sermonette: What Are My Options?

The Necessity of Closing Doors
David C. Grabbe
Given 05-Apr-08; Sermon #875s; 17 minutes

Description: (hide)

People are unwilling to watch a door close, even when there is a greater monetary reward if one closes it. In one important context, trying to keep our options open (halting between two opinions, Baal-idolatry or God) will cost us our salvation. When Elijah forced the people to choose, the people of Israel wanted to keep their options open, having a door back to idolatry. Lot, halting between Sodom and God's righteousness, lingered in indecision. His wife, looking longingly back, keeping her options open, lost her life. As God's called out ones (especially second or third generation ) we need to keep the door to the world's enticements closed, and the door to the riches of God open, choosing life rather than death.
