sermonette: True or False Hope?

The Error of Hananiah
David C. Grabbe
Given 18-Aug-12; Sermon #1116s; 17 minutes

Description: (hide)

Jeremiah 28:5-12 describes Hananiah's false prophecy about God breaking Nebuchadnezzar's yoke over Judah. This false prophecy gave them false security, causing an acquiescing into sin and a symbolic replacement of a wooden yoke with an iron yoke. If a prophet lies about God's purposes of correcting His people, it is rebellion and a false prophecy, calling for death. In some quarters of the greater church of God, proclamations downplaying the need for trials and tribulation are beginning to circulate. This militates against God's stated purpose of bringing punishment to this nation for turning from Him.
